Whale Fall Whale Rise

About the film

Inspired by the natural phenomenon “Whale Fall” and the experience of losing someone close, I try to convey the idea that death is not entirely a bad thing in my animation Whale Fall Whale Rise. The cartoonish character design may not seem to go well with the theme of how to face death. But I hope that those who have lost someone important to them will find some comfort in watching this short film.

When I was doing the pre-design, I thought about using a character design that was closer to the human form. But that would made the shots shows the Whale Fall a little scary. So at last, I chose to use a more animal-like character design.

This animation was very different from my previous style. I met a lot of problems when producing it. And there were still a lot of shortcomings in various aspects. But I am glad that I finally made it according to my original idea. I hope you could enjoy this animation!
